Police Organization

The Jupiter Police Department is made up of several different components, all of which contribute significantly to the overall police service provided to the community. Several of these divisions and units go unnoticed by the average citizen but, as with any successful organization, each employee, regardless of his or her assignment, has a tremendous responsibility to the overall outstanding reputation that the Jupiter Police Department maintains with its citizens and the law enforcement community.

The Police Department is headed by Chief Frank Kitzerow and consists of 114 sworn officers and 29 civilian support staff personnel. The Department prides itself on remaining innovative and at the cutting edge of modern policing techniques. With that innovation comes the diversification of specialized units available for assignment to sworn officers. Some of these units and assignments include: Patrol Bureau, Criminal Investigations, Traffic/Motorcycle, Marine, Canine, Beach Patrol, SWAT, Street Crimes, Task Forces, Hostage Negotiations, and Underwater Recovery. Each employee contributes in their unique way to the overall effectiveness of all police services provided to the members of this community.

The following information on the various divisions and units within the police department should provide some helpful insight on the diversity of services performed by the Jupiter Police Department.

Patrol Bureau:

The Patrol Bureau Commanders are responsible for some of the most necessary functions within the agency which ensure that efficient and highly professional levels of service are provided to the citizens of Jupiter such as Road Patrol and Community Service Aides. Patrol Bureau Commanders also oversee the Neighborhood Enhancement Team, Juvenile First Offender program, Community Emergency Response Team and volunteers.

Administrative Services:

The Administrative Services Manager is responsible for support functions within the agency which include Crime Analysis, Fleet & Facilities Maintenance, records, payroll, budget and purchasing.

Operations Support:

The Operations Support Bureau Commander is responsible for providing some of the most vital support functions within the agency. These units include: Criminal Investigations, Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation, Evidence and Property, Canine Unit, Marine Unit, Street Crimes Unit, Task Forces, Special Weapons And Tactics team, Hostage Negotiation Team, and the Underwater Recovery Team.

Office of Professional Standards:

The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for accreditation, recruitment & hiring, training, evidence, staff inspections, strategic planning and management of the early warning system.
